- Valid study permit;
- Must be a full-time student;
- Must be enrolled at a designated institute at the post-secondary level or, in Quebec, a vocational program at the secondary level; and;
- Must be studying in an academic, vocational or professional training program that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate that is at least six months in duration.
If you qualify with above requirements, you will be allowed to:
- Work up to 20 hours p/w while studies in session; and
- Work full–time while on academic, for e.g. winter and summer holidays or spring break.
Post-Graduate Work Permit
A very basic pathway and options leading towards permanent residency status after being an international student in Canada, is something which other countries do not provide, or maybe it’s difficult over there as compare to the advantages of studying in Canada.
After completing studies, you might receive a work permit for the duration similar to the duration of the completed study program upto a maximum of three years. Those students who have completed a study program of about 4 years, will also be eligible for the work permit for the maximum of three years only.
Pathway to Canada’s Permanent Residence
Work experience acquired via Post-Graduate Work Permit Program, helps international students to be eligible for permanent residence in Canada through the CEC (Canadian Experience Class). Moreover, few provinces like British Columbia and Quebec, also have an immigration streams that provides permanent residence options for certain graduates. Candidates for British Columbia’s International Post-Graduate category will have the advantage of not having a mandatory requirement of a job offer. There are other provincial immigration streams for the graduates completing their education from a respective province.
